CD5: Community Response Training

Garrett Announces Funding for Centenary College Law Enforcement and Community Response Training Program
(Washington, DC) U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-5) announced federal funding today for a Law Enforcement and Community Response Training Program at Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
“I am pleased to announce this funding for this terrific program at Centenary College. Centenary is one of New Jersey’s most outstanding higher education institutions,” stated Garrett. “Our local law enforcement and first-responders are the front line defense of any possible terrorist attack and this hands-on training will allow them to better help with incident response and crisis management issues.”
The funding will support nationally-replicable training programs tailored specifically to small community first responders, businesses and rural police departments in the areas of Incident Response Training, Crisis Management, and Terrorism Threat Assessments. The Department of Justice Edward Byrne Discretionary Grant Program helps provide local communities and learning institutions additional resources to undertake educational and training programs for criminal justice personnel and supply technical assistance to state and local units of government.
In response to this funding, Centenary College President, Dr. Kenneth Hoyt, stated:
“Most small communities do not have sufficient staff to allow employees to be away at training for more than a few days at a time; most are forced to limit training to two or four hour sessions. They also lack the necessary resources to train and integrate all levels of crisis management required in the current environment. Thanks to this significant grant, our new program will address these challenges.”
Centenary College is one of the premier higher educational facilities in NW New Jersey that serves thousands of students both from the state and around the country.
